SOURCING BIG DATA INFRASTRUCTURE Taming Hadoop H adoop has become a strategic technology for organizations as they struggle to cope with the volume, variety and velocity of potentially meaningful data being generated within and beyond the enterprise. But effective implementation of Hadoop can be challenging — especially when it comes to finding the necessary Hadoop skills, crafting a performance-tuned Hadoop environment and keeping that environment running smoothly at scale over time. In fact, the ability to quickly, expertly and cost-efficiently deploy Hadoop is a key competitive differentiator in a world where big data success is so crucial for business success. IBM PureData System for Hadoop addresses these challenges by providing a rapidly deployable, high-performance and feature-rich appliance for Hadoop implementations. This appliance integrates all of the server, storage, network and software components necessary to run Hadoop reliably, smoothly and at scale over time. It also provides a simple-to-use management console and easy system updates to minimize total cost of ownership. In addition, IBM PureData System for Hadoop surrounds Hadoop with complementary analytic technology that enhances users' ability to extract value from structured data, text, machine data and social feeds. This technology includes IBM InfoSphere BigInsights and IBM BigSheets, a browser-based tool that makes it easy for users to en- 14 SSS UBM Tech gage in high-value, ad hoc explorations of large, diverse data sets. IBM PureData System for Hadoop also simplifies integration of Hadoop into enterprise environments with standards-compliant ODBC and JDBC interfaces, support for SQL queries and streamlined connections to other big data resources such as data warehouses (including DB2 with BLU Acceleration or PureData System for Operational Analytics), and Netezza analytic engines such as PureData System for Analytics.
